Burgham International Horse Trials
It’s been a full-on but rewarding few days up at Burgham for Alex and the team.
First up, it was a welcome return to the show arena for Cool Jack (aka Colin). He hasn’t run since Thoresby, so Alex was keen to get him back out but with a bit of caution in mind—there are bigger goals ahead this season. Colin was a bit flustered in places in the dressage but absolutely nailed other bits. There’s a lot more in the tank, and we’re excited to see it come together in time.
In the showjumping, one unlucky pole and a classic Colin sour face didn’t take away from the fact that he jumped really well overall. Then it was onto his favourite phase—cross country—and it’s safe to say Alex could barely hold him! The boys flew around with ease and had a blast doing it. Colin felt fantastic after and came back really well, which is always the best part to report.
The weekend also marked Atty’s FEI debut, which was a big moment. He’s one of the most exciting young horses Alex has had the chance to produce, and with just four events under his belt, he stepped up massively. The dressage test was a real challenge, and while he found some of it tough, he gave it his absolute all. We were honestly blown away by how much he tried.
Sunday morning brought very slippery going, so Alex rode with care in the jumping phases. Atty handled it all brilliantly, especially for his first 2* cross country, and looked seriously impressive out there.
All in all, a brilliant weekend for Alex and his boys. Great runs, plenty learned, and a lot to be proud of. Onward to the next one!
