Meet Alex Tordoff
Alex Tordoff is a British international event rider and the founder of Hyde Lodge Horses. He’s been riding at the top levels of eventing for several years and is currently competing at 3*, 4* and 5* level with a team of talented horses.
Originally from Leicestershire, Alex built Hyde Lodge Horses from the ground up with a focus on producing quality event horses in a thoughtful, consistent way. He’s hands-on in every part of the process—from backing young horses to riding at some of the biggest events in the UK and Europe.
Alongside competing, Alex is passionate about the long-term development of horses and riders. He’s created a professional, supportive environment at Hyde Lodge where horses come first and progress is built on good foundations, not shortcuts.
Whether he’s on the yard, training at home, or out on a cross-country course, Alex brings a calm, honest, and forward-thinking approach to everything he does.
Vision & Values
For me, it’s always been about doing right by the horses. I believe in producing them slowly and properly—taking the time to build trust, confidence, and a solid foundation that lasts. I want the horses in my care to enjoy their work and feel set up to succeed long-term, not just in the moment.
Welfare is non-negotiable. Whether it’s a young one learning the ropes or a seasoned horse heading to a 5*, they all get the same level of attention, patience, and respect.
I’m competitive, of course—but never at the expense of the horse. I care more about the partnership and the process than ticking boxes too fast. I also think having the right people around you makes all the difference. I’m proud of the team we’ve built and the way we work together every day to get the best out of every horse.
At the end of the day, I’m here to keep learning, keep improving, and do things the right way—for the horses, for the team, and for the future.
–Alex Tordoff
